The Wilds is home to the largest breeding herd of onagers in North America.

In fact, The Wilds houses close to half of the total onager population in North America’s zoos. We have worked with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) to produce the very first Persian onager born from artificial insemination. AI research could, in collaboration with SCBI, help genetic diversity in the US and European onager populations.
