Wilds Art Camp Opportunity to Capture Wildlife in a Variety of MediumCumberland, Ohio (July 18, 2008) – Artists using all types of media are invited to experience a weekend at the Wilds exploring places and spaces rich in visual inspiration at this 10,000-acre conservation center. The Wilds Art Camp takes place Aug. 15 to 17, and will be facilitated by nationally renowned wildlife artist Linda Howard Bittner. “The Wilds offers the best opportunity in Ohio to experience a variety of native flora and fauna species along with an impressive array of endangered animals from around the world,” said Howard Bittner. “The expansive habitats and stunning landscapes are guaranteed to inspire any artist.” All levels of arts experience are welcome, although registrants must be age 18 or older. The camp itinerary includes both planned activities along with flexible time to allow opportunities to explore the specific interests of camp participants. Activities include seeing non-native species like African rhinos, scimitar-horned oryx, giraffes, and many other rare and endangered animals in open-range habitat, with stops along the tour and at various destinations to allow camp participants time to work on their artwork. Evening hikes and tours of the expansive lands at the Wilds will allow opportunities to capture prairie wildflowers, woodland scenes, and sweeping landscapes in the twilight. A relaxing campfire tops off the second night of camp. Howard Bittner, who specializes in two-dimensional arts, is a member of Masterworks for Nature, a group of wildlife artists from the Cincinnati area dedicated to supporting conservation efforts. Samples of her art and more information are available at www.masterworksfornature.org. Cost for the overnight camp is $150 per person, including overnight lodging at the Wilds’ yurt education camp, meals, and art sessions. Registration deadline is Aug. 11. A full camp itinerary can be found on www.thewilds.org. To register, or for more information, call 740-638-5030 x2286, or contact reservations@thewilds.org. The mission of the Wilds, an independent, nonprofit organization, is to advance conservation through science, education, and personal experience.
