Education Camps
Education Camps at the Wilds are an experience in Wildlife Conservation like no other. Learning about native and international wildlife, habitats, biodiversity, ecology, field skills and conservation happens here in field studies that plug you into the everyday conservation work at the Wilds. All ages of students and adults can see how science can be applied to our living world in our single or multiple overnight Safari Camps.
SAFARI CAMPS
Overnight camps at the Wilds are an excellent way to get your school
or group immersed in the Wilds. They can be single or multiple overnights.

pastures, campfires, night hikes, and learning while doing hands on
field activities like:

HANDS ON THE LAND CAMPS
Restoration Ecology Camp Overnights
Hands on the Land is a unique Education Camp experience that puts your
students in touch with how to use the biological sciences in a real
world and active way. The Wilds 14 square miles of surface mined and
reclaimed land offers a one of a kind living laboratory
for restoration. This program also helps you as a teacher and your class
to get involved in work in your home community.
The Hands on the Land curriculum is given to all teachers that are involved in these overnight experiences. So you have the opportunity to plug these Ohio standard aligned topics into your teaching schedule. You can also use the assessment and evaluation tools that are built into the program to determine your student’s achievement.
Your class will learn about:
- Biodiversity
- Interpreting the Land
- History of Natural Resource Use
- How a Biologist Counts
- Invasive Species
- How to get involved in your Community
- Developing proposals
- Impacts on our World
Students learn about restoration work that has been done through scenarios of real world problems before they arrive at the Wilds. Then they are given a problem scenario from the Wilds to figure out. While they are at camp, they will be working on that particular problem with their own restoration remedy.
After that, you will have the opportunity to return to your home and get involved in a similar community service project of your own design. This is a great way to get students interested in what they are learning and help them see the real impact that they can have by being stewards of our environment.
As with our Safari Camps meals are provided, equipment and materials are provided, and you will enjoy a tour of the range pastures during the 2 night program.
