DOGGONE WILD! -- African Wild Dogs
2007 marked the opening of the new Mid-Sized Carnivore Conservation
Center at the Wilds, and the arrival of our first African wild dogs
(and cheetahs, too)! Proceeds from the 2008 EcoThon at the Wilds
will help support the important conservation work for these species
at risk.
African wild dogs are perhaps the most endangered carnivore in Africa,
due to habitat loss, persecution, and infectious disease. Populations
have been declining at an alarming rate. The Wilds is able to offer
critical support for the African wild dog Species Survival Plan (SSP)
through scientific study and breeding research at the new Carnivore
Center.
In addition, the specially-designed Carnivore Center provides large,
multiple-acre enclosures that allow packs of these fascinating animals
to roam freely, allowing more naturalistic and healthy behavior for
these highly social and communal animals.
Your support is critical to this important project. Thank you for playing
your part to help us in our mission to advance conservation through
science, education, and personal experience.
