There are nine subspecies of giraffe.

The Wilds is home to two of these subspecies: Reticulated and Masai. Reticulated giraffe have polygonal shaped spots with a white background. Masai giraffe have dark leaf-like spots on a yellowish background. The giraffe spot pattern allows them to blend in with trees.

Physical Characteristics
Giraffe are the world’s tallest animal and have 7 vertebrate in their neck, the same as humans! The points on their heads are similar to horns but are extensions of bone covered in fur called “ossicones”.
Behaviors
Giraffe are very shy animals and are always on alert. When giraffe sense danger they will typically run, but will defend themselves by kicking their forefeet if necessary.
