Bat Weekend at The Wilds

OCT 25 - 27

10:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day

Help The Wilds celebrate all-things BATS...just in time for Halloween!

October 24 - October 31 is known as Bat Week, and it's a time to celebrate the importance of bats and their role in wildlife conservation. Although many people may find bats creepy, there is no doubt about how important they are!

A few fun facts about bats in Ohio:

  • Bats slow mosquito-borne diseases. Did you know one little brown bat can eat 6,000 to 8,000 mosquitoes in one night?!
  • Bats save farmers and gardeners billions of dollars. The 13 bat species in Ohio eat a variety of insects, many of which are harmful for our agriculture.
  • Bats provide other vital services to our ecosystems. While our 13 bats are active predators of insects, they also are food for other species including owls, ratsnakes, and raccoons. Many fruit eating bats in the tropics are important seed dispersers and pollinators, growing the rainforests.

Join us at The Wilds' Kids Discovery Field Station on October 25 - 27, 2024, for special bat crafts and information! And, if you're joining us on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., you'll get to meet a bat biologist, too!
